Hanyang University is opening a new horizon for remote learning innovation by proactively responding to the rapid changes in university education caused by the arrival of the post-corona era and the digital innovation acceleration. In the 2021 spring semester, Hanyang University officially opened the next-generation learning management system ‘HY-ON’. Compared to the previous LMS Blackboard, HY-ON has 4 advantages in enhanced user UI sentiency, comprehensive on and offline attendance and grade check, advanced video lecture solutions, and learning analysis data saving system.

Hanyang University's newly opened next-generation LMS is expected to be a system with expandability and great flexibility for diverse learning methods that connect on and offline lectures with convenient functions for users and providing comprehensive information for remote lecture operations.

Next, the telepresence-based hologram lecture ‘HY-LIVE’. HY-LIVE is Korea’s first telepresence-based hologram lecture. HY-LIVE enables students to listen to lively professor lectures through a hologram and conduct active communication such as asking questions and having debates. Furthermore, lectures that combine lots of classes are also possible. This is especially useful for social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The cutting-edge LIVE+ lecture room refers to the hybrid lecture rooms that can hold both on and offline lectures. The most distinct characteristic is that in-person and remote lectures are performed at the same time. In the lecture room, systems for live online lectures and video recording systems such as professor tracing cameras, high-quality sound equipment, and displays for monitoring are installed.

Hanyang University enriched lecture quality by applying live lectures - properly mixing in-person and remote lectures. Currently, 30 lecture rooms have been transformed into LIVE+ lecture rooms and 10% of total courses started using the LIVE+ lecture rooms in the 2020 fall semester. Hanyang University aims to use the LIVE+ lecture rooms for 30% of total courses this year.

Additionally, Hanyang University is developing "Gig-Education", which is a short-term online learning course based on the best academic professors, to strengthen business competitiveness amidst the rapidly changing business environment.

By providing lectures of leading professors in 4th Industrial Revolution fields, Hanyang University plans to enhance business technology acquisition and business practice capacities. Electric automobiles and batteries are the most representative fields. The education course is offered in 30 and 60-hour intensive learning units, which suit the demands of businesses and experts.

The last model is the remote learning hub center. Hanyang University was selected as the managing university of the capital area last October by the "Regional university remote learning support center project" hosted by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Education & Research Information Service. Hanyang University is planning on establishing an on-and-offline linked sharing education platform. From this, an innovative education method to deal with difficulties of an individual university will be achieved. In addition, remote learning services will be provided to various education consumers such as the local community and business entities.
