Hanyang University (President Lee Ki-jeong) signed a business agreement with LG Chem Ltd (CEO Shin Hak-cheol) to foster talents in the battery technology field, which is the next major industry in Korea.

Executives such as LG Chem Ltd Vice President Lee Hyang-mok, Executive Director of the Cathode Material Business Division, Director of Battery Material Development Center, Senior Managing Director Choi Young-min, Hanyang University President Lee Ki-jeong, Executive Vice President Chung Hyun-chul, Dean of College of Engineering Kim Chan-hyeong, and Professor Sun Yang-kook of the Department of Battery Engineering, who is a world-renowned scholar in the secondary battery field, attended the signing ceremony held at the Hanyang University (Seoul campus), Seoul, Seongdong-gu on April 11. 

Through this agreement, Hanyang University will establish and operate the "LG Chem-Hanyang University Industry-Academic Cooperation Program" within the graduate school's Department of Battery Engineering and battery materials-related departments and select outstanding talents as industry-academic scholars. The selected students will complete a customized degree program jointly developed by Hanyang University and LG Chem Ltd, trained as experts with expertise and practical knowledge in the secondary battery field. In addition, the industry-academic scholarship students will receive tuition and scholarships to focus on research and will be employed at the company as soon as they obtain their degrees.

Lee Hyang-mok, Vice President of LG Chem Ltd.’s Cathode Material Business Division, said, "We will continue to grow along with talents who will lead the next-generation battery industry in the cathode material business, which is one of the axes for future growth."

“The battery industry considered a key industry in the future due to its high potential, is expected to compete intensely to gain the global upper hand in the future”, said President Lee Ki-jeong, of Hanyang University. "We will cultivate the best talents through customized programs for industry-academic cooperation and R&D collaboration with LG Chem Ltd, a global leading corporation," he said.
