Hanyang University presents academic perspectives on expanding sustainable social contribution models
Upholding the founding philosophy of ‘Love in Deed and Truth’
The Global Social Innovation Foundation(GSIF) at Hanyang University (Shin Hyun-sang as Director) hosted the ‘Collective Impact Forum’ on September 19 at the International Conference Hall, Baeknam Library & Academic Information Center in collaboration with Innocean and World Vision. The forum was organized to explore the potential of cross-sector partnership-based social contribution models to tackle national challenges such as aging populations and regional decline. Experts convened to review in detail the achievements of the “World’s Safest Iljuk Bathhouse Project,” a leading case in which different stakeholders including local governments, public institutions, non-profit organizations, and social economy organizations collaborated to successfully resolve a social issue.
Following the key session consisting of project introductions and reports on social achievements, a panel discussion was held while moderated by Director Shin Hyun-sang. The discussion featured Kim Se-won, Senior Manager at Innocean; Park So-jin, Senior Manager at World Vision; Kim Sung-geun, Team Head at the Gyeonggi-do Social Impact Creators; Park Se-jun, Director of the Anseong Social Economy Center; and Yoo So-hee, Team Head at the Anseong Health Welfare Social Cooperative.
The subsequent expert debate featured Hanyang University Professors Shin Yong-soon(Dean, College of Nursing), Ahn Hee-kyung(School of Business Administration), and Roh Tae-woo(College of International Studies), who shared academic perspectives on how collective impact through cooperative social contribution can be sustained and scaled. The session also led to a reflection on the vital role universities play in the process of creating social value. Director Shin emphasized, “Hanyang University will continue to contribute to enhancing the sustainability and ripple effect of social innovation by adding academic knowledge and insights to diverse social contribution initiatives. This is a meaningful process of realizing the vision of being a ‘university that empowers society,’ based on Hanyang founding principle of ‘Love in Deed and Truth.’”
Hanyang University Global Social Innovation Foundation, as highlighted by Director Shin, is currently operating a range of curricular and extracurricular programs designed to foster social value creations and build a sustainable future. As the only Ashoka U Changemaker Campus in Asia, Hanyang actively participates in international social innovation networks such as the Talloires Network and the Asia Venture Philanthropy Network(AVPN). In 2018, the university collaborated with Stanford University to publish the Korean edition of Stanford Social Innovation Review(SSIR), further establishing itself as a leader in advancing the impact ecosystem both domestically and internationally.
