Hanyang University Ranks First in Attracting International Students in Korea
Attracting 8264 students from 71 countries, the first in the nation Enhancing global competitiveness by expanding support for international student employment and settlement
"Internationalization:" a key strategy for strengthening university competitiveness
Since 2003, Hanyang University has taken a proactive step in internalization through exchanges with English-speaking countries with outstanding education environments, including neighboring countries like China or Japan. As a result, Hanyang University is continuing active exchange by striking sister school agreements with 510 universities worldwide. This led to Hanyang University being ranked first in the nation for attracting the most international students.
Since taking office, President Lee Ki-jeong, who positioned "internationalization" as the core strategy for reinforcing the university's global competitiveness, led various internationalization initiatives, such as strengthening collaboration with overseas universities and establishing an international student management system that leads to employment and settlement.
Actively supporting international students to settle and establishing of global network
Hanyang University Office of International Affairs provides systematic and personalized international student management services by assigning a team of dedicated professionals. Thanks to this excellent management system, Hanyang University demonstrated excellence in international student management by being recognized for 14 consecutive years since 2011 as a certified institution under the International Education Quality Assurance System.
Recently, the university has been focusing on establishing the "Hanyang-All Care System." The system aims to comprehensively manage international students by offering programs that cover the entire process of attracting international students, assisting academics, supporting employment and starting businesses after graduation, and strengthening alumni networks. As a part of the initiative, Hanyang University offers various programs, such as individual career counseling, global project internship, and Hanyang Job Fair.
Strengthening international student alumni network
Hanayng University is working to reinforce alumni networks for international students at Hanyang University to support their growth into competitive talent on the global stage after graduation. The university is supporting international students' local employment as the first Korean university to establish the "Hanyang China Center" 20 years ago in Shanghai, China, and it is working to invigorate alumni networking by establishing an alumni association in Huadong region in China in 2023 and in the Huabei region in 2024.
Hanyang University expressed not only to advance its internationalization efforts by attracting international students but also to contribute to addressing South Korea's pressing demographic challenges, such as declining birth rates and workforce shortages. Moreover, the university is strengthening its global strategy as it prepares to become the world's top 100 universities.
