Johlio Mergel from Cameroon speaks Korean very fluently. He visited professor Byung-Jin Park’s office located in the school of business.

He is really comprehensive, he’s really kind, he’s really like open-minded towards foreign students. Because I’m not Korean, so I’m not used to Korean ways of Korean students’ habits, I don’t, I’m not used to their culture. And he fully understands that, and he really takes care of me as a father, and calling me, checking on what I’m writing. Because I’m not a english-native speaker, sometimes I have issues with my english writing. He checks that all, and he gives me advices about how to make a really good thesis. We are now working on the paper I have to publish, and he was just awesome with me, helping me true. So, I’m really really thankful and among all the professors I met here in Hanyang University, he is definitely the best.

JELENA ELEK from Serbia called professor Sung-Moon Cho a ‘father’. She followed professor Cho very well who have been helping with her studies and career by giving precious advice and offering good guidance.

I was really surprised by how kind he was and friendly to me from the start, even when he didn’t know me that well. When you leave your country, and come to somewhere so far away, you leave all of your friends, all of your familiar faces and you don’t know anyone. So when someone gives such a heart-warming welcome to you, you feel like you’re at home. And my mentor was like that too. He really tried hard to make my studying here not stressful, and easier. And he is always trying to help me with my studies and he’s.. I don’t know. Recently, he even took the role of my father. He told me that I can see father in him because I don’t have a family here in Korea.

Students from other nations who came to Korea to study as ‘한양인’. They thank deeply from the bottom of their heart to professors who became their mentors offering guidance to adapt to different environment.

This event offered both students and professors to take action in following our university’s motto, “Love in deed”. Now it’s your turn to pin a carnation and show your appreciation and respect to your mentor.
