Hanyang International Summer School (HISS) which offers foreign students an unforgettable korean cultural experience was held in Paiknam concert hall on July 4th 2016.

 

This year, 1708 students and 67 professors from different countries participate in Hanyang International Summer School. Students will join in various cultural programs like city tour, visiting SM town, amusement park and mud festival every Friday for a month, and they will also take Korean Language course.

 

Opening ceremony started with welcoming remarks by Lee Ki-jeong, the Vice-president of International Affairs. He conveyed some important things to keep in mind, learning different aspects of Korea and making new friends. Then, Dr. Stanley from Lander University delivered introductory remarks emphasizing that education is a powerful weapon to change the world.


The host of this ceremony, Mr. Rick Punt, introduced 50 faculty members and student assistants. Participants watched video clip introducing Hanyang University. Then the part 1 ended with taking a group photo.

 

In part 2, Mr. Rick Punt, conveyed some useful tips to help foreign students' life in Korea. Then participants had a lesson to prevent crimes and cope with emergency situation and they saw Taekwondo from Seong-dong police station. Also, foreign students solved their curiosity through Q&A session.

Q. What made you choose to participate in this program?
A. I chose Hanyang university because I read about that it is an amazing university of good opportunities and I have never been to Korea before I’m hoping to make lots of new people and good education from this university.

Q. How do you feel about participate in this program?
A. I really love this. Friend of mine as being in a last year at summer school and I should go this year so that is why I went to the school and I look forward toward in a next month.

 

HISS is hosted annually in July and the number of those who are interested in this program keeps increasing. I hope foreign students have great experience and make a lot of new friends.
