On February 24th, Hanyang University held the 2021 Freshmen Entrance Ceremony at Paiknam Library & Academic Information Center. The ceremony was live-streamed on YouTube due to COVID-19.
First, the ceremony started with a welcoming and celebratory address. President Kim Woo-seung advised freshman that, "Your dreams need to be about happiness," and presented four other requests. Kim Jong-ryang chairman of the board called the freshmen class of 21, the 'class of twenty-one that will lead the 21st Century', and asked that they "be students that care about the growth of all, not only the development of oneself." President Son Yong-keum of Hanyang Alumni Association shared words of encouragement and cheers, as the representative of thirty-three thousand Hanyang alumni.
After, the alumni welcoming video, Korean classical musician Ha Yoon-ju, actress Kim Hyang-gi, baseball coach Ryu Ji-hyun, President of Seegene Chun Kyung-jun, and other alumni from various fields celebrated the entrance of freshmen, mentioning "we hope that you reach all of your dreams at Hanyang." Students Kim Hwan-hee (Department of Theater and Film 21) and Kim Sung-ho (Department of Dance and Performing Arts 21) each gave words about entering the university and shared determinations for the future, each representing Seoul and ERICA Campus, repectively.
The highlight of the ceremony was the celebration song. Korean classical musician Ha Yoon-ju sang 'Beautiful World', creating a much more festive ceremony. The men's choir of the College of Music also sang the university theme song, filling the ceremony with a beautiful melody. Although the freshmen students could not meet each other in person, the 2021 freshmen students began a new part of their lives during the fifty-five minute entrance ceremony. Now they have taken their first official step as Hanyangians.
