“Project on understanding Hanbok and Hanfu” through “Project HAN” on YouTube

Hanyang University Department of Applied Art Education students Jeong Da-heon, Kim Si-eun, and Kim Seo-yoon uploaded a video “What if a Chinese person tries on Hanbok?” on the YouTube Channel “Project HAN” as a part of their department project on May 26.

The video has a Korean and Chinese model discussing the “Hanbok and Hanfu controversy” regarding their traditional clothes, understanding each other’s stances, and trying on each other’s clothes to actually feel the differences.

The models in the video are Hanyang University Graduate School of International Studies, Department of Korean Studies student Lim Kyung and Department of Applied Art Education student Jeon Min-seo.

The two models had different reactions to the question “What do you think about the recent controversy between Hanbok and Hanfu?” but had a chance to understand the “differences” through wearing each other’s clothes and feeling the difficulties.

Students of Hanyang University Department of Applied Art Education said, “The video was initially made based on the controversy surrounding the historical distortion in dramas at the beginning of 2021 and ‘Shining Nikki’, which is a representative example of China’s culture processing”. They also said, “We hope Korea and China share their stances together regarding traditional clothing disputes, and experience each other’s cultures to respect and understand each country’s distinctiveness.”

Meanwhile, more videos and information on “A project to undestand Hanbok and Hanfu correctly” can be checked out through the “Project HAN” YouTube channel and Instagram account.
