Designed an interactive smart pot through an IC-PBL course
"Chatty Leaf," designed by Valeria Demidova (Interior Architecture Design, Senior), won the 2021 Red Dot Design Award for Concept Design.
Founded in 1955, the Red Dot Design Award is one of the world's top 3 design competitions. Innovative and aesthetic designs are selected by a panel of experts in product design, communication design and design concepts.
Ms. Demidova's chatty leaf is a smart pot idea that not only facilitates plant management but also helps plants interact with users and enables virtual plant-to-plant communication.
Ms. Demidova developed the idea in the course "Introduction to Physical Computing" taught by Professor Hyun Kyung-hoon, head of the Department of Interior Architecture Design.
Professor Hyun Kyung-hoon said, "Valeria was a student who was interested in the integration of design and technology, especially in designing human-technology interactions and pursuing user-friendly designs."
He also said, "Through the 'Introduction to Physical Computing' course, which is a project-centered IC-PBL course, students can not only plan ideas but also produce creative results that actually work."
