Hanyang University (President Kim Woo-seung) and Korea Telecom (KT, CEO Koo Hyun-mo) established the new Contract Department and will receive applications from students to foster artificial intelligence (AI) professionals.

The newly created Department of Artificial Intelligence Application is a full-time master's degree program that teaches △natural language processing △voice recognition △deep learning and △machine learning. For students of the department, which conditions on employment, KT supports tuitions for four semesters, including the admission fee. After graduating, students will work as R&D researchers in the KT Institute of Convergence Technology.

The Department of Artificial Intelligence Application students will be given chances to analyze and research large-scale AI data of KT in the environment using the state-of-the-art Graphics Processor Unit (GPU) through field practice.

Domestic and international students with (or prospective) bachelor's degrees are eligible to apply, and the maximum number of students accepted is 20 per year. The application for the 2022 first half-year is open on the KT recruitment website from August 2 until 15 (recruit.kt.com). The candidates accepted will be announced in November after the process of △document examination △personality and aptitude test·coding test △interview with KT and △graduate school interview. Shin Hyun-ok, vice president of KT's Head of Management Support Department, said that "There are lots of companies that are in need of AI talents, but Korea is short on professionals. The establishment of the Department of Artificial Intelligence Application will be a huge contribution to securing AI professionals."

Meanwhile, Hanyang University and KT created the AI One Team in February 2020. The AI One Team is a cooperative body formed by Korea's renowned industry-academic-research institutions to foster AI professionals and discover AI application cases in industrial fields and lead the country to the top in the AI field. The two announced on July 18 that they would jointly develop the "super-large AI model."
