Hanyang University said on December 21 that a research team of Professor Yoo Hyoung-suk of the Major in Biomedical Engineering at the School of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering developed a high-performance computer interpretation simulator for the therapy effect expectation and performance optimization of RF hyperthermia through radio wave focusing.

The finite element method (FEM) based radio wave RF hyperthermia expectation computer simulator, which research team developed, can compute electromagnetic field distribution and heat generation within a human body by multichannel RF hyperthermia system through computer analysis algorithms and shortened the computation time while having more than 95% accuracy compared to expensive commercial simulation software.

The research team developed the simulator based on a graphic user interface so that one can check the result easily and conveniently based on various body models and RF sources. The simulator is available on normal PCs by executing a file without any paid licenses and programs.

Professor Yoo Hyoung-suk said about this research result "For the interpretation of electromagnetic wave and heat interpretation in a human body, we suggested an alternative that can overcome the previous research and development environment that one had to purchase an expensive simulation program from overseas. It is expected to have a high use value as a tool for a core research and development tool of radiowave's medical application and healthcare industry, which are next-generation potential technology."

On December 2023, this research, sponsored by the 'development of precision bio-propagation and imaging technology' from the Institute for Information & Communication Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP) under the Ministry of Science and ICT, was published online on the 'Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine', which is the highest level SCI journal of the computer program and interpretation field.
