On September 4, UNN had an interview with President Lee Ki-jeong. President Lee, who started his term as the President of Hanyang University, talked about the 'internationalization of Hanyang University' by saying, "So far, the internationalization of universities was mainly quantitative and now it is time to take care of qualitative parts as well. From now on, there is a need for international student policies to take care of not only inviting them but also managing them."

President Lee said, "2039 is the year when Hanyang University celebrates its 100th anniversary. I want to take much care so that the upcoming four years can be a stepping stone for 100 years of Hanyang University," and chose the 'internationalization of Hanyang University' as the heart of steppingstone. About the internationalization strategy, he explained, "We would like to achieve quantitative and qualitative growth through the internationalization of students, faculties, and staff members. In the case of faculties, we will prepare a research support fund to foster co-research with overseas universities and supporting projects to bring global Master's and Ph.D. research members."

Also, he said, "For undergraduate students, we will provide chances to expand their sight to the whole world as much as possible by preparing chances to go study at global 100 universities, international startup programs in relevance to universities in relationship, and global internships." Other than that, it will draw a 'focus point' of internationalization capacity enhancement through a double-degree system and international student management.

President Lee emphasized that Hanyang University needs to go back to the essence of the university in order to continue to develop. For this, Hanyang University need to actively benchmark universities that have succeeded in innovation and create an environment that enables development of various educational programs. Also, it should overcome the domestic decline of the number of students by pursuing a co-growth of both education and research and introducing new and excellent international students. He said, "As the speed of the world gets faster and faster, an ever-life education should be available so that one can go along with the world that constantly changes after graduation. This is the best possible option that can deal with the decrease of the population and can continue the social role as an educational organization."

About these main tasks and further plans during his presidency, he said, "At first, I would like to be a president who can bind the minds of all Hanyang people for the development and growth of Hanyang University. The goal is to make a university where all its relevant people make a happy and beautiful combination." Further, he said, "During my presidency, I will start a task force team so that it can make many innovations from the viewpoint of education, research, management, and system during my presidency and try hard to actualize main core quests of '2026 Mid-term Development Plan', which I am going to announce in October. Especially, I will make the basis for the world's top 100 universities that stand at the center of the world through various development plans centering around internationalization and synergy creation between Seoul and ERICA Campuses, the biggest strengths of our university."
