'New topography of science technology' lectures
Finding solutions to various issues within Nonsan
Professor Kim Seong-hee at the Center for Creative Convergence Education of Hanyang University had a 'New Topography of Science Technology' lecture with the Population-Youth-Education division of Nonsan city government. The lecture took an Industry-Coupled Problem-Based Learning (IC-PBL) form and tried to find solutions to various issues within Nonsan.
The lecture dealt with ways to make younger and elder generations happier, ways to form an online logistics channel for local agricultural and marine foods, and ways to figure out convenient facilities for families and visitors who are looking for the Boot Camp in Nonsan.
To help students understand the Nonsan and its population decrease issues, many special lectures took place per week. There were lectures and question-and-answer sessions through 'Introduction to Nonsan's Strategies and Trends to React the Extinction of the Population" (An Seong-ryul, Assistant Officer of Nonsan City Hall), 'How HP Korea Approaches to the Age of Population Extinction' (Kim Mi-jin, Director of Commerce at HP Korea), and 'Population Extinction and Solutions in Architectural Perspectives' (Kim Myeong-jae, CEO of Plot Architects, Architect from the Royal Institute of British Architects) courses.
Professor Kim, who led the lecture, said, "I felt students actually 'realized' the policies of Nonsan that they have always read through texts and they acknowledged that 'we' should consider the seriousness of population extinction altogether. we should know that the problem is not the sole problem of one community and we have to learn about it, and this was a chance to expand the topography from the science and technology perspectives."
IC-PBL is a next-generation education model that Hanyang University provides and it deals with problems and solutions that industries and the society are related to. Since it organically connects companies, institutes, local communities, and the university, it lets them develop altogether by solving actual problems and supports them create new values."
