The Department of Semiconductor Engineering and the Department of Battery Engineering have been selected
Each department will receive KRW 15 billion over 5 years

The Department of Semiconductor Engineering and the Department of Battery Engineering of the Graduate School of Hanyang University (President Lee Ki-jeong) have been selected as beneficiaries of the High-tech Industry Specialized Graduate School Support Project organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Both departments have been designated in the semiconductor and battery sectors, respectively.

The High-tech Industry Specialized Graduate School Support Project aims to establish a system for cultivating and deploying master’s and doctoral graduates among the innovative talents who will lead the nation’s high-tech strategic industries. The departments selected under the project will receive KRW 3 billion per year (KRW 15 billion over five years). In total, Hanyang University will receive KRW 30 billion over five years.

Department of Semiconductor Engineering develops technology to drive paradigm shift in semiconductor packaging

The Department of Semiconductor Engineering’s specialized graduate school has been selected as a beneficiary of the project as it seeks to foster innovative talent and respond to the technological paradigm shift in the semiconductor packaging field.

The department plans to invite 22 faculty members in 7 departments specializing in materials, elements, processes, design, and systems, which are essential to semiconductor packaging technology, and develop original advanced packaging technology and cultivate advanced talents in semiconductor packaging through cooperation with universities, research institutes, and enterprises at home and abroad.

Students are supported through scholarships, the research and educational environment provided by the Hanyang Institute of Smart Semiconductor and the Hanyang Center for Advanced Semiconductor Packaging , and various programs, such as participation in industry-academia collaborative research projects, training at overseas institutions, and internships with companies.

Department of Battery Engineering to nurture innovative talents through cooperation with battery manufacturers

Established in 2022, the Department of Battery Engineering (Graduate School) has been nurturing professional talents who can lead the development of battery technology. By signing agreements with battery manufacturers (POSCO FUTURE M, SK on, LG Energy Solution, LG Chem), the department has selected industry scholarship recipients and organized employment programs.

Professor Sun Yang-kook of the Department of Battery Engineering will lead this project to train master’s and PhD students in battery engineering. The department plans to conduct education in conjunction with government and corporate battery research and development (R&D) projects and support employment by matching graduates with companies. In addition, it will contribute to the progression of Korea’s battery industry and ensure global technology leadership by training key personnel.

An official from the College of Engineering said, “We will provide full support to all Department of Battery Engineering students and encourage anyone interested in the battery industry to participate.”
