Hanyang University (President Lee Ki-jeong) has been ranked 19th in the QS World University Rankings 2025, joining the top 20 in Asia. This is the first time Hanyang University has been ranked in the top 20 since the inception of the QS World University Rankings, and is considered a significant achievement as the university has accelerated its rise from a two-place drop last year to a seven-place rise this year.

Hanyang University, with the gain of 7 spots in this year's evaluation, sought remarkable growth among leading universities in and outside of Korea. In particular, the university is making positive changes on the global stage and not just in Asian rankings. Hanyang University came in at No. 162 in the QS World University Ranking, an improvement of 2 spots from last year, while placing itself at the top 251-300 in THE World University Rankings, securing a higher position compared to the previous year. Likewise, Hanyang University has been establishing a firm presence as a global university.

The exceptional growth of Hanyang University owes to its efforts to reinforce research competencies, focused on high-tech sectors. Specifically, the university made its presence by actively engaging in convergence research, led by research institutes specialized in areas like environment & energy, bio, and semiconductors. Since the inauguration of President Lee Ki-jeong in 2023, the university established new research institutes specialized in the field of defense, to expand the hemisphere of convergence research that breaks the borders between departments and majors. Such research focus well demonstrates Hanyang University's strong will to dominate new-generational high-tech fields.

Internationalization also acts as an important factor that supports Hanyang University's competitive edge. Hanyang University, boasting its top-tier internationalization capacity in the nation, has shown positive results, by attracting international students from various countries through the expansion of its global network since the pandemic and by vitalizing exchange students and visiting students programs.

In particular, Hanyang University, in the Mid-term Development Plan 2026, declared a transition from conventional "quantitative internationalization" to "qualitative internationalization," asserting a firm strategy of attracting international students in the fields of new high-tech industry. Such a strategy goes hand in hand with the Study Korea 300K Project, announced by the government last year, and is expected to set a foundation for attracting international talents and improving the quality of education.

Continuous innovation of Hanyang University and its efforts to strengthen research capacity are solidifying its global presence and are raising expectations of its upcoming feat that will be based on national competitiveness.
