Kim Eui-dam (Doctorate, advisor professor Chung Yoon-sun), a student at the Department of Nuclear Engineering, won the Korean Association for Radiation Application (hereinafter KARA)’s Young Scientist Award.

The Young Scientist Award is presented by KARA, and youth with outstanding achievements in facilitation of radiation use, safety, and radioactive isotopes are selected as award nominees.

Kim Eui-dam has published four SCI papers (3 lead authors and 1 second author) in international journals so far, and 19 conference presentations in domestic and international academia. The main research fields are base study to improve the biological accuracy of radiation therapy and research to predict radiation sensitivity from specific cancer cell genetic data through deep learning. In addition, research is being conducted to increase the accuracy of particle radiation treatment, especially proton therapy plans.

Student Kim Eui-dam said, "The goal of the study is to apply artificial intelligence and deep learning technologies to the fields of radiation therapy and safety to enable more effective radiation treatment and safer use."

Meanwhile, the KARA aims to facilitate the use of radiation and radioactive isotopes, foster the national radiation industry, and contribute to the development of the national economy. Furthermore, it is established to develop the future radiation industry, including the R&D of the radiation industry, mutual cooperation between industry, academia, research institutes, and related organizations, and support for research, development, and commercialization of radiation technology.
