The industry-coupled field training with students and practitioners as a part of the Industry-University Collaboration with AWS

Hanyang University ERICA Data Security and Utilization Field Convergence and Open Sharing System (Director Cho Sung-hyun, Professor of the School of Computer Science) announced that it successfully held the "Industry-Coupled Field Training and Cloud Computing Practical Training with Students and Practitioners" from January 20 to 22 at the Amazon AWS Korea headquarters and ERICA campus.

AWS (Amazon Web Services) is a core business of the global leader in cloud computing Amazon.com, and it established itself as one of the world's major tech giants. Through the collaboration, Hanyang University ERICA and AWS Korea are set to strengthen their partnership for cultivating future talent by establishing an innovative university-industry education system in data security & utilization fields (including cloud computing, cybersecurity, blockchain, and data privacy).

As a part of the field training programs stemming from the industry-university collaboration with AWS, the program offered various practical training and career mentoring sessions. Key activities included Cloud computing technology fundamentals; IT/SW Technical Essentials training tailored to the field; Guidance on getting certifications in cloud computing; Lectures on AWS and global big tech industry trends; and An overview of the hiring process and things to note during each process.

"The collaboration with Amazon AWS Korea presents a model for regional-industry-university-research- collaboration with a global company and lays the foundation for nurturing talent in advanced data fields," said Director Cho Sung-hyun. "The initiative is expected to contribute to establishing Hanyang University ERICA as a data hub in the metropolitan area."

The students who participated responded positively. "I was able to comprehensively develop theoretical knowledge, practical training, and job competencies through the field training at AWS Korea, so it was a very meaningful experience to me," said Choi Rak-young, a student from the School of Computer Science. "If the university offers a similar program in the future, I would definitely recommend them to my friends and fellow students."

Meanwhile, Hanyang University ERICA High-Tech Fields Convergence and Open Sharing System was selected in 2024 as part of the local government-participatory new field consortium, alongside Gangwon-do Province, Kangwon National University, Ajou University, Chungnam National University, and Yeungnam University. This initiative effectively leverages regional advanced resources while contributing to curriculum development and local talent cultivation in high-tech fields.

In particular, the university operates various high-tech educational programs through the development of specialized curricula in the field of data security & utilization convergence field, flexible academic and faculty systems, collaborations with businesses, and others. Students are provided with valuable opportunities to develop skills for the future by completing various academic and extracurricular courses regardless of their major.
